Pianos often require more than just “tuning” – that is, tightening the strings. A typical piano service call may involve any or all of the following:
- Raise the pitch so that A4=440Hz
- Voice the hammers
- Lubricate front pins, balance pins and action centres
- Tighten action screws
- Regulate hammer strike distance
- Regulate hammer set-off
- Regulate hammer drop
- Regulate repetition spring tensions
- Check una corda, sostenuto and sustain pedal regulation, tighten pedal lock nuts and lyre bolts
