Tuning

Pianos often require more than just “tuning” – that is, tightening the strings. A typical piano service call may involve any or all of the following:

  • Raise the pitch so that A4=440Hz
  • Voice the hammers
  • Lubricate front pins, balance pins and action centres
  • Tighten action screws
  • Regulate hammer strike distance
  • Regulate hammer set-off
  • Regulate hammer drop
  • Regulate repetition spring tensions
  • Check una corda, sostenuto and sustain pedal regulation, tighten pedal lock nuts and lyre bolts
